This is the writing and research blog of Tony Williams. I am a writer and academic based in Northumberland, UK. I work in English & Creative Writing at Northumbria University.

My current research interests include:

  • Icelandic sagas and how contemporary writers can learn from this medieval genre in writing novels and other texts
  • medieval texts more generally, including the compendium or codex containing a variety of distinct texts, and medieval prophecy
  • poetic landscapes and the figure of the city as an imaginative space
  • filmpoetry
  • critical reflection on creative practice, particularly through conversations between practitioners (using practice as a means for reflecting on practice)

I’ve previously researched, among other things, the role of dog-walking in creative writing practice.

This blog is an unsystematic way of gathering and recording field notes, texts, and ideas. I’d be glad to hear from you via the comments or by email via tony.williams@northumbria.ac.uk
